Learn What You Love

Resorts aren’t just for holidays! A world of possibilities is opened up for students studying travel related courses, and the expression “Life’s a beach” is certainly true for some of the students studying the Diploma of Resort Management at William Angliss Institute, the specialist training centre for culinary arts, tourism and hospitality.

Coupling management and hospitality skills with dive, spa or water recreation practical qualifications, students studying William Angliss Institute’s Diploma of Resort Management are highly sought after in the industry, with graduates often getting jobs in some of the world’s leading five star hotels and resorts.

Sarah Clarke and her classmate Lauren both studied the Diploma of Resort Management (Spa) and are now working at Conrad Maldives Rangali Island Resort.
When asked about her training, Sarah says, “I can't think of anything that the course has missed or that I feel like I wish I knew or had been trained on! Even dealing with difficult guests and different cultures (so important) was covered.”

The Diploma of Resort Management is unique. It provides specialist resort industry skills in conjunction with hospitality, tourism and business management studies, creating flexible, multi-skilled graduates, sought after in resort environments around the world. Diploma of Resort Management students choose from one of our specialist streams including Dive, Spa or Water Recreation. They are also qualified with Responsible Service of Alcohol, Responsible Service of Food and other skills to see them thrive in the resort and hospitality industry. They graduate with diverse skills for customer-focused jobs, and equipped with internationally recognized qualifications and the knowledge and practical experience for management roles.

Lilly Finlayson, Manager of Resort Programs at William Angliss Institute. “We’ve worked closely with industry to develop these courses to ensure graduates are multi-skilled and job ready when they graduate, as we recognise that in a resort environment, job descriptions can be quite broad.”

The Diploma of Resort Management (Spa) students study specialist Spa therapy units and also undertake a structured work placement component. They learn skills to successfully manage a Spa and Wellness facility, as well as how to help guests relax and indulge their senses. Specialised training in spa rituals and treatments also includes massage and health, aromatherapy, facials, body wraps, manicures and pedicures.

A great benefit of the Resort Management course is its all-inclusive nature. Students are provided with textbooks, uniforms and workbooks. In their first year all students attend an Interstate Study Tour where students apply the skills they are learning and view best practice industry operators at work. In their second year an overseas industry tour is available so that students can observe international best practice operators in the field and attend targeted industry events.
